As a farmhouse sink, which extends beyond your countertop and cabinet fronts, this sink boasts an impressive 18.5” of interior front-to-back workspace, providing ample room for even your largest pans and dishes. If your prior sink was of the typical varieties, prepare to be impressed by the additional room from which you now have to work. See specification sheet (below) for spec data and dimensional line art.
SINK MATERIAL: 12-gauge 99.7% pure copper
MANUFACTURING: Compression-molded basin, T.I.G welded apron
With 50 pounds of pure copper going into each of our sinks, Fossil Blu’s 12-gauge copper makes for the thickest and strongest copper farmhouse sinks available in the American market. We start with raw copper, mined in the Himalayan foothills. Smelting is done in Northern India where the copper is refined to 99.7% purity, with .3% mineral phosphorous added for material strength. It is delivered to our factory (also in Northern India) as both 12 and 11-gauge copper sheet metal.
Production of each sink is done in five parts: Compression molding, apron forming, hammering, welding, and finishing. Starting with an 11-gauge copper sheet, a 30,000-pound hydraulic press forms the sink bowl, which after accounting for some extrusion, results in a 12-gauge copper bowl. As opposed to a welded bowl, our pressing process during this step ensures that the bowl is continuous, with no seams within the basin. Next, the apron (sink-front) is cut from 12-gauge copper sheets, and bent to form. Next, both the bowl and apron are hand-hammered by skilled artisans. Their technique emphasizes randomness as they strike the metal with a ball-peen hammer in one hand, iron cup in the other (bracing the copper from behind), specifically avoiding uniform “rows” of hammer marks. Following this, the apron is T.I.G. welded to the bowl. This time-honored welding process ensures strength, rigidity and a tight seal at the seams. Last, the sink heads to the finishing room for cleaning and patina application.
FINISH DETAILS: Natural oxidized copper (patina)
COLOR: Dark “Antique”
SHEEN: Satin
APPLICATION: Natural oxidation, sealed
This sink features a mottled finish, characteristic of the natural oxidation, or patina, of copper. Our copper sinks start as raw (semi-shiny) copper, and remain as such throughout manufacturing and hammering. Upon completion of production, we soak each sink in a non-toxic solution similar to household vinegar, which once removed and exposed to oxygen in the air, rapidly oxidizes the metal. At the correct time interval, we apply a torch to the metal to quickly dry the sink and neutralize the process. The dark umber-colored patina has been formed. Next, using a buffing machine with a mild scouring pad, we lightly remove some of the patina from the ridges of the hammer marks, while the valleys retain nearly all of the dark umber hues. Last, we apply non-toxic carnauba wax to seal the copper and patina.
Given the natural and handmade processes involved, no two sink patinas are exactly alike. With some variance in mind, RGB value averages are as follows: Hammer ridges (brighter areas): R: 142, G: 111, B: 98; Hammer valleys (darker areas): R: 83, G: 67, B: 58. The higher red (R) and green (G) values in both the ridges and valleys indicate that the copper tones and dark-umber-colored-patina tones are consistent, just in varying shades of darkness. No jade/green copper oxide will be present on the basin interior or apron, and it will not form as your sink ages in your kitchen if you follow basic care and cleaning techniques. SINK FRONT: Flat, Hammered
APRON DIMENSIONS: 30”W x 9-7/8”H x 1-3/4” Thick"
APRON THICKNESS: 1-3/4””
APRON WRAP: 2-1/2” left & right sides
CORNER RADIUS: 1/2” left & right, 1/4” top & bottom
Our most popular choice for the sink apron, Fossil Blu’s flat-front copper farmhouse sinks provide a clean and classic look to updated kitchens. The large, rectangular shape of the apron allows the hammering and finish of the copper sink to be the highlight, not the shape itself. The quality of the sink comes through at its apron - both in its luxurious finish and with its blunt edges – showing its 12-gauge material thickness. This material quality also provides peace of mind. As the most-exposed part of the sink, the apron needs to be able to withstand bumps and bruises. At 1-3/4” wide and 12-gauge thick, this apron is incredibly strong, making it a bold (and wise) addition to your kitchen.
The apron wraps around the left and right sides of the sink, traveling 2-1/2” along these sides before wrapping again back towards the sink, where its then welded to the exterior of the sink basin. This double-wrap method increases the structural integrity of the apron, while the 2-1/2” of exposed sides allows for flexibility in install depths. We generally recommend 1-1/2” to 2” of the sink to be exposed on the left and right sides.
ACCESSORY MATERIAL: 304 Stainless Steel
ACCESSORY FINISH: Antique Copper
GRID INCLUDED: Checkerboard pattern, custom-fitted
DRAIN INCLUDED: No
DISPOSAL FLANGE INCLUDED: 3.5” disposal flange and stopper
Included with this sink are two accessories: One (1) custom-fitted sink grid, and one (1) garbage-disposal flange. For material strength, these accessories are made from 304 stainless steel, and finished in Antique Copper. To achieve this finish, we first plate the stainless steel with copper before then applying a veil of black powder coating. After light brushing, the copper finish displays an antiqued look, which leans more toward dark tones than brighter copper tones. The darker overall appearance is done so intentionally to be neutral against the tones of the sink. This, along with the neutral appearance of our checkerboard grid, allow the sink to remain the focus, not the accessories. All Fossil Blu sink accessories carry a limited one-year warranty.
These accessories are provided for your peace of mind. The removable grid protects your sink bottom and improves drainage, while the disposal flange is provided for your garbage disposal. Should you not be installing a disposal, give us a call when you place your order and we would be happy to swap this out for a basket strainer drain.

With straight sidewalls, tight ½” radius corners, and no center divide, our single bowl sinks provide a best-in-class sink surface from which to work. So, if you have a busy kitchen with large pots and/or many dishes, then a single bowl is the sink for you. You’ll love the roominess it affords.
Fossil Blu copper sinks are easy to clean and will keep their beautiful, natural patina if you follow one simple maintenance technique: Applying carnauba wax once a month. Carnauba wax is a natural product harvested from palm fronds (developed by nature to protect palm trees during hurricanes), and is therefore safe to use in the kitchen. When applied once a month to your sink, water, food debris, and soaps will flow freely down the drain, thereby protecting the sink finish (patina) and significantly reducing hard-water deposits. We recommend Mothers (brand) “Step 3 Pure Brazilian Carnauba Wax”, applied with a microfiber cloth. When applied, it does not make the sink pasty or shiny. Rather, the finish carries the same sheen but with more tonality to the colors.
Copper and its patina are, of course, a natural metal and process. As such, the patina is considered to be a “living” finish which can change over time. Carnauba wax seals the patina, preventing said change, but should you forget to apply for a period of time, it is recommended to avoid long-term exposure to foods containing acids. For example, if given long enough, the citric acid in ketchup can remove patina. It is therefore recommended to clean and dry your sink as often as is realistic for your household, particularly if not using carnauba wax.
Should any of this concern you, rest assured – in the event that your sink loses some patina, there are two remedies: Time and Liver of Sulfur. In time, patina will form over any raw copper exposed to air. So, the spot will darken again on its own. But should you not wish to wait, Liver of Sulfur is a product used primarily in jewelry-making applications for rapidly oxidizing metals such as copper. Follow the dilution-strength and application directions on the bottle, and the exposed copper will be re-patinaed with near-instant results.
